I have a sparcserver 20, a network cable, a com1 adapter and windows hyperterminal set to 9600-8-n-1. Which "tp <...>" port can I use on the back of the sparc?
We do this with a sunfire at work, can it be done with the sparc? If so what am I doing wrong?

My mistake, I just found that a sparcserver 20 is the same as a sparcstation 20 without a graphic card.
I don't know about a good linux distro for the ss20, perhaps http://www.ultralinux.org/ should help, but I never installed any linux on sparc H/W.
You should be able to install Solaris 9 if you have enough RAM.
Although probably unsupported, I've heard of a report of successfull S10 installation on a SS20 too.
That's ok. I remember back in the day when I was adminin' a small network of unix workstations for CAD and engineering, the company we got the machines from would take one workstation and set it up with NFS, printing, whatnot, and call that the server. I have a feeling Sun did a similar marketing ploy with the sparcs.
BTW, I have an old sparc one that was originally a computervision CAS workstation that I don't wish to resurect. It comes with a keyboard, monitor and optical mouse if you know of anyone interested.
As for distro...well I'll probably just go with Sol 9 for now as most of the linux distros are falling way behind.
