Applying Patches to Solaris 8

Hi. I'm fairly new to Solaris8 and moderate experience in Linux (Red Hat 7.x -- although it's been awhile). I just setup our new SunFireV480 with solaris 8 and I am installing software that is requiring that OS to have certain patches.

My question is this:

1.) Solaris patches are numbered in such a way, for example, 108528-xx. The software asks for 108528-11. All I can find at SUN is -18. Is the number after the "dash" the version number of the patch??

2.) Could someone tell me how patches are applied?? I see that there is a command called "patchadd". I've read the man pages on it, but I'm hoping someone can give me some additional guidance -- perhaps a better/practical way to apply patches.

Thanks...

PS. Does this forum still email to notify users of people's response to their thread???

1) The number after the dash is the patch version. Typically you can get away with the latest version unless there is some specific incompatibility which SHOULD be outlined in the accompanying README.

2) Single patches are applied using patchadd. For example:
patchadd 108528-18

If you are installing a patch cluster, there should be an install_cluster script in the extract directory.
