[Solaris 9] find package version number

I need to find the version number of bind running on a Solaris 9 box (Sparc)

pkginfo | grep -i domain shows "system SUNWinamd
Internet Domain Name Server" - I guess that's bind.

But if so, how do I find the version number?

I used "pkginfo -l | grep -i domain" but that gives me nothing beyond
NAME: Internet Domain Name Server
DESC: Internet Domain Name Server

/var/spool/pkg directory is empty.

How to find a version number?

Thanks for any help.

Did you try pkginfo -l SUNWinamd? You are grepping for the wrong line of output

By the way, you are also looking at the wrong directory (/var/spool/pkg). that is for when you spool a package (transfer without actually installing it). Shouldn't you be looking at /var/sadm/pkg? I don't have a box in front of me now but /var/spool/pkg is supposed to be empty unless you spooled the actual package (pkgadd -s .... by the way).

Hey There,

Javier is correct. If you want to pick a specific line to grep after you pkginfo -l command, do this:

Quote:
pkginfo -l | grep -i ver
that should give you the VERSION line.

I agree more his inital solution, though. If you use pkginfo and specify a pkg, you don't really need to pipe to grep (unless you're using this to get a value for a variable). There will only be 10 to 15 lines of output all for that specific pkg anyway.

Best wishes,

Mike

Not sure about your installation but my version of bind displays the version at the end of the rndc --help command.

Indeed, or better: /usr/sbin/named -version

This is probably the version noir911 is looking for as the package version is unrelated.

Note that the package name changed from the weird SUNWinamd to a more logical SUNWbind in current Solaris releases.
