You won't have one if you don't change layout during install.
Just copy mine and replace dvorak.map with la-latin1.map.
chmod 0755 & chown 0.0 on it.
I think it's called from line ~270 /etc/rc.d/rc.M
pkgtool will also allow you to select & run setup scripts to change things

yup. you won't have speech as it is compiled with speakup_synth=none but it is still running as shown by /proc/speakup.

Thanks for the help. This all gives me a couple of options to work with. Time to shut down the WinXP and see if I can make this thing work. I'll let you know how it turns out.

BTW, this seems like a bug in the Slack 12.0 install routine. Has anyone said anything about it "officially"?

Okay, my Slack 12.0 is now installed (happiness!).

1. boot:speakup.s did not work. My installer hung consistently whenever I changed the keymap to la-latin1.map (Ctrl-C got me out of the installer and I could reboot or poweroff).

2. Intalling with the US keymap worked fine.

I went ahead and accepted the default keymap during the installation, and then created /etc/rc.d/rc.keymap like you suggested above (only changing your dvorak.map for my la-latin1.map) and all is working wonderfully.

I still think this is a bug in the installer for Slack 12.0. Other folks around the world are going to bump into it. Hopefully it'll get ironed out soon.

Thanks for all the help. It was exactly what I needed.

It sounds like you are locking up during the setup keymap selection. Mine was stuck at the boot keymap selection (before login as root & #setup). Is this correct?

Kinda hard to fix without a whole release? Or it might only affect a few people anyways.

I could boot Slack 12.0 no problem. The installer came up fine. But, since I use a la-latam1 (or whatever it is) keymap, I like to change it as soon as possible in the install process so I don't have to hunt and peck blindly for keys (like the "/" and ":"). When I tried to change the keymap with the Slack 12.0 installer, it locked up on me. A Ctrl-c got me out and I could reboot.

I eventually just installed with the default US keymap and then added the appropriate /etc/rc.d/rc.keymap. Worked fine.

Thanks for all the help.
