Thanks. I'm trying to download it now, sitting outside at the closed university using its wifi. It seems to have stalled early. I think they throttle guests, even when there's so little U traffic. I found the old SlackwareLiveCD project on SourceForge (last updated in 2013). It kernel-panicks when I try to run it. So does my backup disk. I think something else is going on.
Later: it worked, at least to boot. I still haven't fixed the target disk
