how do I configure sound in 9.1?

I've just installed 9.1 and dropline gnome. Sadly, slack is about the only version of linux that didn't find my sound. Can anybody help me setup and configure sound?

more than likely Slack did find your sound........
you need to.......
a......make sure your user has access permissions to /dev/dsp and /dev/mixer
b...........turn up the volume sliders on your choice of mixers.......
alsamixer and/or aumix
