Hey guys. As I'm writing this, I am attempting my first Linux install. I searched around, and decided on Slackware. I'm just a hands on kind of guy.
I used to think I was pretty computer savvy, until I started reading more about Linux, I have never felt like more of a noob than right now.
Anyway, this on a old laptop I have, a Dell Latitude C600. I have nothing on it, and if it starts to burn up, I won't fell like I lost anything.
I'll post up the experience, and the questions I have during this process. If I just can't wrap my head around the whole thing, and have to give up, thats cool too.
I see its asking me something, I'll go look and see if I can answer it. lol
Its asking about partitioning the drive. It says you have to mount them first. If you don't know how, type pkgtool. So, I do, then it says I can't run pgktool until mount my Linux partitions.
Distribution: Slackware, Windows, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Mac OS X

Ahhh, I see what I didn't do.
I read that page before, I guess I forgot about that part.
OK, solved that one, when I started this thing, I used the huge.s kernel. I thought this machine would be considered old, I guess its not that old. I retried without doing that, and so far so good.
VFS: cannot open root device "fd00" or unknown-blocl(253,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:
0300 5866560 hda driver: ide disc
0301 248676 hda1
0302 1hda2
0303 5614686 hda5
1600 4194302 hdc driver: ide-cdrom
Kernel panic- not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(253,0)
But I'm not going to mess with it tonight, tomorrow is another day.

Looks suspiciously as if lilo has been set up to boot from a floppy.
Did you go throught the whole installation including installation of lilo?
The simplest thing might be for you to boot again from the installation CD and redo the lilo installation. Make a note of what you are doing.
Alternatively, if you do not have a workable system getting hold of lilo.conf might be a problem. You might try booting from a live CD such as knoppix, you should then be able to find the file /etc/lilo.conf
Well, the internet doesn't work, probably because I siad I'll do that part later. Being used to Windows, I thought there would be a "setup internet" window, well I can't find one.
Sooo, not sure what to do at this point, Can I stick disk one back in, and redo setup, with out redoing everything? I'll bet that I don't, I just haven't found out how yet.
