hi all ,
i installed slackware 9.1 (installed everything except X application, GNOME and EMACS ) --> installed Swaret and updated everything ---> then installed the latest kernet 2.6.6 . Everything worked fine.
Even though i didnt install X applications they still appear on the start menu though it doesnt open . But if i didnt install it why is it there ?
Secondly, though everything works fine, i still feel that when the kernel loads it loads too much (not sure what i mean by too much).
My system Conf:
Compaq NX7000 Laptop (intel centrino 1.4 ghz)
40GB hdd
768 MB ram
ati 9200.
Any links to a .config file that would be minimal.
Thirdly, just wanted to know does swaret update kde packages? I had 3.1.4 and now its 3.2 ( is that a full upgrade or just KDE applications, if not is there a tool like SWARET for KDE ??)
Fourthly,
How can i access my usb based floppy in linux, i dont know which is the device file (eg: /dev/fdo , /dev/floppy)
Five,
I would like to use MUTT to send and receive IMAP and POP based Emails.
Someone told me i got to use fetchmail to recieve the mails , procmail to process them into different folders and customize , MUTT to view them and sendmail to send them . How far is this true and does that mean i have to enable all services , just for mail ??? Does evolution does that too in the background ?? Any links to configuration would be great.
Lastly,
My usb mouse works great, but the mouse on my laptop doest seem to work at all. I know this question has been asked many times, i want to know what is the device file for this, eg if i were to edit XF86Config --> what would be the input device file to get both of it to work.

I guess they're just applinks installed with a package.

Does it take a while to boot, or do you have lots of modules?

Swaret will update all of KDE. You can have a look at the installed packages with KPackage.

Well I remember you can add another InputDevice after your current one, and then add "SendCoreEvents". But for some reason i only have one InputDevice, and my touchpad (PS/2) and USB mouse both work. So maybe try the line:
Distribution: SlackWare 10.1+, FreeBSD 4.4-5.2, Amiga 1.3,2.1,3.1, Windors XP Pro (makes a fair answering machine)

For mail and to use evo. This is what I do.....
Make sure your are running the default sendmail.
Set up the pop3d mail deamon to run on your system. see $> man pop3d
Configure fetchmail to get your pop mail form your online pop mail boxes. $> man fetchmail
Note: fetchmail is the simpliest to setup as it has a x based frontend.
Then in evo set up a new mail account for your local pop mail from your computer.
Where the pop mail server is your.computer.here and your user is your user name and password.
That is it.
I use fetchmail to grab everyones pop mail in the house and I have configure their windors Outlook and Outlook Express to do get/send their mail here, well at least from the mail server.
