Confused about 2.6.13 in slack 10.2: What is going on?

Two questions(SLACK 10.2, test26.s):
1) In the README.initrd file, there is also a mention of installpkg mkinitrd
I do not see an mkinitrd.tgz, at least not in the second CD
Do we really need to install it?

2) I have a SCSI system and all fs s are reiser except boot which is ext2
How do I find out how to make an initrd for such a system?
I mean throughout the installation I specified twice I want test26.s,
and uname -r says 2.6.13
Are the SCSI modules already installed and in any case, how do I really make a proper initrd?
Actually, I want to be able to decide at lilo time whether to boot the 2;.6 or 2.4.31 kernels. How do I do that? (I used to do it by simply saving
images under different names and having them both in /boot and lilo, but now I am no longer sure)
I'm really confused with the installation that does ot really install 2.6.13
and it's not clear to me if it installed the SCSI and reiser modules or not.
But it does not look like it installed 2.4.31 either because uname says 2.6.13!

10.2 kernel

picking test26.s kernel installs it during installation but 2.4.31 headers, modules, alsa driver and source are also installed. No need for initrd. U do 'expert' install then unselect the 2.4.31 stuff and finish install.
Then on reboot and login ,as root, u will need 2.6.13 source,?headers, alsa driver and modules. These are on cd2. Mount /mnt/cdrom> cd /mnt/cdrom >ls >cd 2.6.13 and 'installpkg' the desired files or use pkgtool from that directory(where 2.6.13 files are)
Then u get 2.6.13 (large fast kernel) system. Ususal configuration is all that should be needed.
To use 2.4.31 kernel and 2.6.13 kernel requires following guides elsewhere.
Just note that to use parallel port printer u will need to uncomment lp0 and paraportpc in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules and start cups. if u use dsl then pppoe-setup is now used. And usb MS mouse is setup according guide at top of forum with 10.2 and earlier-or FAQ no 26 or so.

Ok, so I should not mkinitrd(in fact I did once and it broke everything, so I reinstalled)
Expert install also failed: Both on network installation and also on root password setup(couldn't find it),
though I did not change anything in the basic packages.

Right now, I finished the installation with tet26.s and all packages.
I copied from the second CDROM and installkpg the 2.6.13 generic and modules
So, now I have all 2.6.13?
The question is what do do next.

I assume create a 2.6.13 image for lilo?, right?
Also, my mouse does not work and neither does the network.....

confused

Assuming u did expert install and unselected 2.4.31 kernel, source, modules and then check what u want as far as pkgs, u wd complete install. Reboot.
U will see errors re modules.
As root then insert cd2 and 'mount /mnt/cdrom' >cd /mnt/cdrom > ls > cd 2.6.13. From there just installpkg 2.6.13 source, modules and alsa driver. NO kernel generic and probably not headers. No initrd needed. Reboot.
You will then have the wonderful opportunity to further configure ur system and install programs desired--ha ha.
For usb MS Intellieye mouse with 2 buttons and wheel in xorg.conf(pico /etc/X11/xorg.conf) use mouse, Auto,/dev/mouse,Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5",Option "Buttons" 5". IMPS/2 instead of Auto may work for u.
For dsl connexn, use pppoe-setup. Then add 'pppoe-start' to etc/rc.d/ rc.local
For parallel port printer start cups(either during install or after) and uncomment lp0 and paraport-pc lines in etc/rc.d/rc.modules.
Dont forget to get patch files from slackware site and install them before doing too much install of other packages.
Review 'this is how i do everything' at top of forum and SLW FAQ wiki. Good luck.
Review help files on udev if using 2.6.13 kernel.
