Any different with -mcpu=i686

When I boot to start a fresh installation, is there any difference if I typed
#test26.s

or
#test26.s -mcpu=i686

(My laptop use a Pentium M 1.6 GHz)

-mcpu=i686 is already built into the code.

From the Slackware "General Information" web page:

"Slackware Overview

"... Slackware Linux can run on 486 systems all the way up to the latest x86 machines (but uses -mcpu=i686 optimization for best performance on i686-class machines like the P3, P4, and Duron/Athlon)."
