13.37 on VirtualBox woes

After a full install, it tells to remove the CD and restart the system by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del.

CD can't be removed since I am loading from an ISO. Anyway I let the system restart (perhaps by powering off the VB and then starting again)

Now it gets to a stage which I can't describe, so the screen shot attached:

Oh sorry,

VirtualBox is running on OpenSuse 11.2 (64 bit).
Slackware 13.37 (32 bit) is (trying) to run on VirtualBox 3.0.6

Were you trying to launch an SSH session from within VirtualBox? I don't think ecdsa keys are part or a normal install.

No, I was not trying to launch anything from VirtualBox, but if you think, I could have done something horrible accidentally, is there a way that I can confirm this for you?

None that I can think of. But then, I'm not the only one here. Anyone else on LQ have an answer?

Yes is can be removed. Also not a good idea to restart the virtual machine.

To remove a CD in VirtualBox, right click on the little CD Icon in the lower right, then uncheck the box for the iso that is being used -or- click "Remove disk from virtual drive"

To send the Ctrl+Alt+Del make sure you do it via the VirtualBox Machine menu, "Insert Ctrl-Alt-Del" or press Host+Del. By default the Host key the right Ctrl key. You cold also type "reboot" at the command line.

That screens looks like a normal part of first time key generation. It is locked up at that point? Is that after you did the "power off" of the virtual machine? It seems that way since you did get to the point were is tells you to remove the cd and press ctrl-alt-del.

I have tested Slackware 32-bit 13.37 running in VirtualBox 3.2.12. I recommend that you use version 3.2.12 if possible, since it is the most stable version that I've tested so far. I am using Slackware 13.37 64-bit as a host OS or Windows 7 as a host OS.

You can also try some things to narrow down the problem. Disable hardware virtual support for the virtual machine. Disable PAE for the virtual machine. Set the number of CPUs to 1. Set the graphics adapter to 64MB of RAM (higher amounts used to crash VirtualBox).

If you use hardware virtual features in VirtualBox, you must include the required support in your kernel and the CPU must support those functions.

The last 3.0 release of VirtualBox was 3.0.9, so you are missing some bug fixes running 3.0.6. The VirtualBox site may still have the change logs for those versions. I've stopped installing every release of VirtualBox because there are a lot of bugs until the last few releases of a major version.

I am using the latest VirtualBox 4.0.6 r71344 with zero issues. I installed both Slackware 13.37 and Slackware64 13.37 with no problems.

I see no reason that Slackware shouldn't run on VirtualBox 3.0.6. I do suggest upgrading to the latest version though.

As for the host OS, as long as VirtualBox installed, it really shouldn't matter.

My Host system is Slackware64-current.

Thanks, that was helpful, but not helpful enough.

Today I deleted the virtual hard disk that gets created for the installation of the host OS.
Started afresh, and installed all packages. So, finally when the time of rebooting came, I followed your advise of first pressing "Insert Ctrl+alt+Del" from the "Machine menu" and then right clicking on the CD icon for unmounting it.

And now I am again stuck on the above shown screen shot .

After that point a non blinking cursor appears and that's it.

I think I should reinstall the 13.1 now. Never had any such problem with 13.1 on the same virtual box.

Thanks for following up.

I am currently in a problem right now.

I deleted the 13.37 planted on the Virtual Box successfully. I created a new hard disk and loaded 13.1 on it. While trying to install 13.1, I saw that it didn't follow the usual procedure for taking its time for installing all the packages one by one, instead it flashed a message saying all packages of 13.1 are installed and told me to reboot the system.

I accidentally took a snapshot of the current state, and now I am somewhat drowned, that snapshot is not getting deleted.
See the screenshot:

Follow up

So, few days back I again downloaded a fresh copy of 13.37, and installed
it successfully on the latest version of VirtualBox. This time it went on
very smoothly. It is a probability that there was something wrong with the
previously downloaded ISO itself.

Slackware .iso checksums are available from the Slackware mirrors including http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/sla...are-13.37-iso/

To check the MD5 sum of a DVD after burning
Code:
dd if=/dev/dvd | head -c $(stat --format=%s path/of/.iso/file) | md5sum
EDIT:

To check DVD against the .iso it was burned from
Code:
cmp path/of/.iso/file /dev/dvd
