Reinstalling Raspberry Pi with / on USB flash issue

I'm trying to reinstall my raspberry Pi after this issue http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...nt-4175562326/

Originally I had /boot on the SD card then / on a 16G USB Flash drive, and then another USB Flash drive for my For some reason when I try this time the source and target flash drives keep getting swapped (sda/sdb) so when I install with the target of sdb and then reboot without the flash drive installed the target now becomes sda and it can't boot. Normally I'd just edit the lilo config and change sdb to sda but the rpi doesn't use lilo and I don't see anything on /boot I can edit?

Is there an easy way to fix this?

oh well, I setup an ftp server for the source real quick so I didn't need the usb flash.
