xine won't use xv but others will

Some time ago xine stopped working with xv driver but still works with xshm. With xv all I get is the blue screen. With xshm I get choppy video and dropped frames (because cpu is maxing out).

If I use gxine everything is fine. So also with mplayer. Both work perfectly with xv and have no problem.

I have removed the .xine settings in my home directory but the defaults do not seem to fix the problem. xine worked previously but may have stopped with a new install or the change to xorg from xfree86.

Any ideas?

Add the following line to your xorg.conf:

Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps"

and then restart X.

vasudevadas, that was the answer. I wonder what brought that on.

Anyway, for those that have a similar problem put

Option "XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps"

in the SCREEN section of your xorg.conf

What brought it on was the change from XFree86 to X.Org. X.Org 6.7 has a bug in it; something to do with the pixmaps taking all the video memory and leaving none free for the video overlay or something. I had the same problem when I moved from Mandrake 10 (which uses XFree86) to Slack 10.
