XFCE4 Goodies Broken

Not exclusively a Slack question, but relevant I think.

I've become pretty reliant on panel plugins for XFCE4 from the Xfce Goodies Project. After installing the latest Slack/XFCE4, the panel wouldn't run as some of the previous plugins are apparently incompatible. No problem, off to get new. Big problem.

Several of the files won't unzip and produce this error:
tar xvf xfce4-weather-plugin-0.4.9.tar.gz
tar: This does not look like a tar archive
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

Some of the plugins I want are a page full of "Fix me" links. ex:
http://goodies.xfce.org/projects/pan...wavelan-plugin

Has anyone else had similar problems? Has this project gone to Hell or is it an anomaly? Any other good sources for panel plugins?

Shouldn't you have xzvf instead of what you have above?

Not sure about xfce-goodies though

Yeah, I tried z, j, and a few other ones thinking that the file had been labeled improperly. Sorry for making it look like I hadn't used the right options.

Code:
:~$ tar zxvf xfce4-weather-plugin-0.4.9.tar.gz
tar: This does not look like a tar archive
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
file xfce4-weather-plugin-0.4.9.tar.gz returns:
xfce4-weather-plugin-0.4.9.tar.gz: gzip compressed data, from Unix

Thanks.

gunzip, then tar (I'm not smart enough to pipe one to the other) worked great. Thanks.
