xfce is all rainbows!?? (this is my first step into slackware.)

Just installed 12.2 dual boot with xp pro no problems but one. When I do "startx" xfce does come up but all the text on the tool bars and icons are rainbow colored and unreadable (any images are also). I was wondering if this is a simple as needing the ati drivers for my gpu installed. Any thoughts????

P.S. I do have previous Linux experience, this is just my first attempt at "real" linux.

It sounds like a video driver problem. The proper driver will depend on which card you have.

Welcome to Slackware!

You could try the sample '/etc/X11/xorg.conf-fbdev' or '/etc/xorg.conf-vesa' if you don't want to run the configure program. You can use 'xorgconfig' to configure for your hardware.

Otherwise Backup your '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' file then copy the 'fbdev' or 'vesa' config files to the '/etc/x11/xorg.conf'.

You could try 'ATI' drivers but good luck there.

I get that rainbowing on my text if I have the anti-aliasing/subpixel hinting set the wrong way for my screen. You might want to try playing with the settings on the xfce fonts settings panel thingy.

Interestingly, I get the same thing in vista with cleartype anti-aliasing. My fonts actually look better with anti-aliasing turned off.
