Now when you ran "xf86config" and you got to the video card section, did you type "yes" when it asked "Do you want to look at the card database?"? If so, did you pick card number 60? If you didn't, you might want to do so now (remembering to fill in your own sync and refresh rates as we established above).
2. I then did an 'upgradepkg --install-new */*.tgz'
I did this from the
/pub/slackware/Slackware-9.0/slackware
directory, as all the packages are one directory level down in the disk structure.
Why don't you do that (i.e. "upgradepkg --install-new */*.tgz") from the appropriate directory on your Slack CD? To get there type "mount /mnt/cdrom" and then "cd mnt/cdrom/slackware" and run that command. All this after you have rebooted of course, and checked if that didn't help. So, reboot, run startx. If it doesn't work, run the above command, reboot, and run startx again.
Ok.. I am now replying from within 'mozilla' on my slackware box.. Sitting in the GNOME desktop.. I am impressed... And working through the hardware issues was worth it..
I remember when I first got through all my glitches and issues and got to run GNOME and Mozilla and everything else properly... couldn't quite figure out what to do next. So... happy browsing to you!
-zsejk, who is reasonably happy you didn't have any PPP issues...
