I just installed slackware 12.2 on an old computer with an i810 graphics chipset.
Dispite it being an old computer, I decided to try to install kde4.
It crashed before it could start up completetly.
Xfce does start, but when I click the terminal icon or choose terminal from the menu, X crashes instantly.
My xorg.0.log is included below deleted some lines to make it fit in the post).

If you notice Xfce's Terminal and perhaps some other applications being drawn
very slowly in X, then you should try explicitly disabling the Composite
extension in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, or set XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 in your

It seems like it is a bug that's triggered with some graphics chipsets when using 24 bit colors.
Switching to 16 bit colors prevents the crash, but I wouldn't call it a solution since the card *should* support 24 bit.
