X hangs using blender on Slackware 13.1

Hi all,
blender (both 2.49b and 2.56a) doesn’work on my system. When I start blender, xorg hangs and the system became unusable. I can move the cursor but clicks have no effect and keyboard doesn’work.
I suppose it is all related to my ATI radeon 9100 AGP card, because I had also some few issues using kde’s desktop effects.

I tried upgrading the kernel (2.6.37.3) and libdrm using the sources and the slackbuilds scripts from current. With this configuration blender starts, but it is still unusable. It is enough to move the scene with the mouse that xorg hangs again. Sometimes after a while I can get again control of the system and kill blender, sometimes I have to switch off the system.
I tried to use specific settings in the xorg.conf for the radeon module with very small improvement.
My system is a slackware 13.1 with all the security patches, kernel 2.6.37.3 and libdrm compiled from current.
Here is part of the dmesg
Code:

I have a nVidia GPU so I can't help you a lot.

I would use this page: http://www.x.org/wiki/radeon as a starter, then ask for help on #radeon on irc.freenode.net.

But then, they would probably suggest to first upgrade the relevant part of the X stack, in your case not only libdrm but xf86-video-ati and mesa as well, and maybe the kernel itself (at least to the last stable one, at time of writing 2.6.38.2)

So, all in all I would first try to reproduce that on Slackware-current
