Will Slackware 15 come with Virtual Managers preinstalled?

Hey guys

I ask in the same vein as I see that during setup Postfix and Dovecot, not an option on 14.2, are now an option on the 15 install. I was curious if virtual managers were going to be fashioned the same, or maybe not “in” the install as an option but part of the packages preinstalled. I’ve not mastered my virt-manager and all that but think it would be awesome if it was there already.
Don’t get me wrong I may not be seeing the bigger picture so I don’t wanna come across as ignorant, I am just genuinely curious.

I don't speak for the Slackware Team. In my opinion I doubt that virtualization programs will come preinstalled in Slackware 15.0. Those applications are offered in slackbuilds.org.

Seeing that we're 99.999 percent to 15.0 with current/RC2.

no

No worries though - compiling virt-manager on current/15.0 is a breeze (roughly 20 packages - plus or minus).

If you're talking about virtual mail users, yes, Slackware 15 will have everything you need to create a mail server with virtual mail users.

Virtual mail users are users who don't have a normal login account on the Slackware server. Postfix and Dovecot, together with MariaDB to store some of the configuration (but not the email messages), can be configured to create virtual users and indeed virtual domains now that they are in stock Slackware. If your server FQDN is somewhere.westcoast.us, with just one user set up on the server, bacidevil, you could set up postfix and dovecot to serve email to users for other domains -- somewhere.else.net, for example, and imap.example.com, imap.email.com, imap.otherdomain.com, and so on. Multiple users would receive their email at each domain, without having to create those users as login users on the server.

I have done it, and generally understand what's going on, but running a secure mail server is not for the faint-hearted. You really need a good understanding of all the components, and of the ways to keep your mail server from ending up a spam relay and blacklisted. There's a book by NoStarch press about Postfix which clears up pretty much everything in the mail chain, although they use Courier, not Dovecot, for final delivery of the mail, as far as I remember.

If your question is about managers for virtual machines then I'm sorry for wasting your time. Once you mentioned Postfix and Dovecot I assumed you were looking for advice on managing a mail server with virtual users.

I am no longer all that interested in what will be included software-wise in Slackware15.0. I am more interested in - Will there be physical media like DVDs, and hopefully a USB sold with Slackware15.0

Good question! The old Slackware store that sold physical media is gone. I think it would make more sense to offer torrent links and ask for donations. A preloaded Slackware USB stick would be cool. I have no idea what's going to happen.

Adding my support for a pre-loaded bootable Slackware branded USB stick...

Slackware live-version ala Alien Bob on a USB [有盘] seems to be highly desirable.

And baseball caps

and Slackware Professional Linux (when you get serious) tee-shirts
