Only the first two. The other two are the source code.

any 'source' or 'documentation' ISOs would not be necessary, otherwise you should grab them... you didn't list a distro you're trying to get...

Of course the extras directory is on disc 3, and that has cool stuff like k3b, checkinstall and the Java SDK.

OOps... that's so true!!!
The slackware book is also in the third cd, but it's a little outdated. It's for slack 8 I think.
The extras directory is about 128 MB. You may download it seperatly, if you dont want the 500+ MB of source.
The 4th cd contains a /pasture directory, with things that have been retired.
Anyway when you install slackware you will never be asked to insert disc 3 or 4.
If you want them you are supposed to install those things manually, so you may dowload only the packages you need and not the whole ISO image.

Personally I feel more secure to have the source also. When I recompiled my default 2.4.26 kernel, in order to be able to use both (old, new) i added a -1 in the extra version and my new kernel was 2.4.26-1. I needed the alsa driver source to recompile alsa. I have a 56kb/s internet connection and i ask some friends of mine to download the cd's for me. So for me it's better to have all 4 cd's.
