What version am I on?

How do I find out what version of Slackware I'm running? I went back to Windows 8 months ago since I was heavily coding a CMS, and today decided to backup all my files and join linux again. So I got the ISO for Slackware 10 from linuxiso.org, but something tells me this is 9.1... So please, can anyone tell me the command for finding out my Slackware version?

2.4.26 is the kernel that came with mine. 9.1 uses 2.4.22 and 10 uses 2.4.26 then? Seems a bit... under developed

Ah well thanks for your reply

Almost all distros come with a version file in /etc, most should know this. Don't ever go by the kernel version and when Slackware 10.0 came out, 2.4.26 was the stable 2.4.x series kernel. Patrick compiled support in 10 for 2.6.x kernels but felt it wasn't ready yet to make it default, and its not underdeveloped, its still fully being developed/updated, etc.

I would not call it dated.

Slackware is a distro targeted for servers, thus stability is its primary focus. While 2.6.x has greater compatibility and nice features(alsa, etc...), Pat believes that there is no need to rush. Anyways, if you are like many who want the latest and greatest, check out the kernel 2.6.7 on the testing folder on the second disc. Or you could go for the current 2.6.9 on if you so desire.
