What to do about these files with .new extension?

I ran "updatedb", then "slocate .new" so I can delete the old files and rename the .new files. When I ran it I deleted and renamed as necessary, but I don't know what to do about these...

slovak@slovak:~$ slocate .new
/usr/share/texmf/doc/latex/fancyhdr/fancyheadings.new
/usr/share/texmf/doc/generic/mfpic/whats.new

I ask because those are the only files in those directories with .new, and no other file with the same name minus the .new

/opt/kde/share/doc/HTML/en/ktuberling/button.new.png - probably a "new" button (open the graphic file to see what it looks like) - it's most likely a button
/opt/kde/share/apps/knewsticker/scripts/Readme.newsrss - a readme file to do with rss(?)
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/README.newport - a README file (clue: it's in the docs folders)
/usr/share/texmf/doc/latex/fancyhdr/fancyheadings.new - see last answer
/usr/share/texmf/doc/generic/mfpic/whats.new - ditto

Nothing to worry about as far as I can see
