what those files for?


can anybody tell me what are the purposes of these four files in my home directory?

.DCOPserver_DARKSTAR_:0 -> /root/.DCOPserver_DARKSTAR__0
.DCOPserver_DARKSTAR__0
.ICEauthority
.Xauthority

let me guess... you are running as root?

.X*
and
.ICE*

are both for your x server...

All '.' (dot) files don't show up on a standard 'ls' or in your file browser by default. They are hidden, and often used for config files. . . over time you will build up quite a lot of them with the different programs you use.

I would suggest you create a user account to use... if you have not already.

Also... please read this: http://www.slackware.com/book it will help with these questions.

that clears off the list... but listen: each (dot) file in your home directory will more then likly be a config file or config directory... google the name if you want to find out what it is.
