volume changes not working in programs

kernel 2.6.2, ALSA, module ICE1724 working for M-audio revolution 7.1 card.

I can change volume using alsamixer with no problems. Sound works in Xine, XMMS, and games.

However, the volume controls in programs don't change the sound level, just alsamixer will. So, I can play with the volume all I want in Xine, but only by opening up alsamixer will the volume change.

I did alsaconf, alsamixer, alsactrl store.

Any thoughts?

I've got a similar problem where alsa won't save my volume changes, even with alsaconf, alsamixer and alsactrl store.

revolution troubles

Anybody ever find a fix to this problem? I've also found that only 1 of the ports in my revolution soundcard sends any output. If I have xmms on ALSA it's the front-left/front-right speaker port and if I have it on OSS (using the alsa oss emulator module) then it's the center/subwoofer port. Any ideas?

p.s. on OSS XMMS doesn't auto advance to the next song. It still says play but just sits there until I press next.

Thanks,
Stu
