VMWare Tools download/install error on Slackware14 64bit

I've got an Ubuntu-32 bit setup inside of a VM, but I keep encountering this error every time I try to download and install the VMWare Tools.

Once the download initiates, I get a box that asks for my password, and then returns some error. Here are some images to help out.

After the error, the down-loader says it failed to update/download the component and exits.

My host OS is Slackware 14, 64 bit. My guest OS is Ubuntu, (the virtual machine I am trying to install VMWare Tools inside of).

Sorry, just to be clear, you have:
- Slackware 64 as host ?
- Ubuntu as guest (32/64bit?) ?

The error appears in the Host or in the Guest ?

This error appears in the Host machine (Slackware 14 - 64bit), which is running VMPlayer.

I have no experience (or so few) with Ubuntu... But I can give you some hints. VMWare tools can be downloaded directly in the guest and installed "by hand". In my case I have to do it for Slackware guest (faking PAM dir) anyway.

On the guest:
- try to run a root shell (something like 'sudo bash', a google search might give you the full syntax).
- 'wget' the wmtool archive (you should be able to find the link somewhere on the VMWare site or in the player)
- then install it in the guest from command line.

This way you should avoid the whole "host->guest" mess from WMWare which can be tricky to setup sometimes.

Hope this will give you some help.
