Via8237 AC97 codec sound controller

Dear Sirs

After I had installed the brandy-new Slackware-12.0 I'm facing problems to set up my sound controller Via8237 AC97. I've ever tried alsaconf but no sound comes out from the box. Any suggestions?

If you're using KDE be sure to fire up KMix and check there as well.

If you have configured your card correctly then from the cli;

Code:
~#alsamixer                 #un-mute any desired I/O
                            #press 'ESC' to exit
~#alsactl store #this should store your settings.
After you have re-booted then the alsa should function.
If you are using a GUI then you may need to make additional settings.
