VGA Problem On Slackware 13.1, 64 bit

I think that is my problem, not quite sure though.
I've recently installed Slackware 13.1 64bit OS on my HP Laptop alongside Windows 7 (Only information I could find was that the adapter is Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD), I configure it and then restart it, it goes through booting and such, but then it gets to the end of that, and instead of bringing me to some prompt or some graphical interface, it instead turns the screen off. I've tried running a majority of the VGA settings and none of them have worked, I reinstalled and the problem persists, any ideas?

Are you running the default init 3 level, or have you switched to 5? In that case you should switch back to 3 and see how it goes. You could also try switching to vga mode instead of a framebuffer for booting.

To begin you have to make sure the media you are using has no errors,burn the media slow at 4x or 8x then check the MD5sum,remove all extraneous stuff like card readers and whatever and try installing,it should boot to run level three by default,then you can type startx and if it fails don,t worry just come back here and tell us... there is much that can be done. good luck and welcome to LQ

Well. I figured it out, and I have to say I got lucky. I stood up to do something, and noticed that there were lines of what appeared to be dust on my screen. As I tried to wipe them off, they refused to move and they looked suspiciously like lines of text. So I pushed the brightness-up button on my keyboard, and lo and behold there it was. Hiding behind minimum brightness.

I would like to know one thing though... how, if possible, can you set the run level from LiLo?

NO
you set the default run level in /etc/initab file it's well marked where to edit the file to set the run level

be very careful with this file you can really muck up the system badly if you mess up this file

I use the lilo.cfg/lilo method to decide which runlevel to use at boottime.

I first copy the section to boot Linux to below where the original, change the name somewhat, then edit.

After the kernel line, you can add
Code:
append = "init 3"
for the cli boot, or
Code:
append = "init 5"
for GUI.

That way, you can also choose different kernels, init levels, etc.

This should work, but it is runlevel 4 in Slackware for a graphical boot (not 5 like in most other distributions).
