vanished keyboard layouts


ok, i got this strange problem.
after uninstalling Metro-x ("an accelerated X server") i lost all my keyboard layouts,
so now i am not able to write russian, armenian, french, etc.
can anyone Xplain me where the HELL my keyboard layouts can be ????

(i got KDE 3.2 running on slack 9.1, kernel v. = 2.6.1)

I have no idea where they would have gone, could you give us the output of:

$ ls /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/

all these files have a 444 permission, and they all belong to root.root
first i thought that the permissons and the ownership was the case, but then i came up with a question: why would I be able to see my keyboard layouts even if i am root?
