I have just installed kb3 0.10.1 from Linuxpackages.net in my slackware 9.1. It works fine as root but as an ordinary user it fails to detect my CDR & CD-RW. I have enabled SCSI emulation on my CD-RW.
I would like to be able to use it as an ordinary user rather than have to log out log in as root & startx everytime I need it!
You can run k3bsetup and you will have to set these files as suidroot:
cdrdao, cdrecord and mkisofs
Then you will be able to add users you want to be able to use k3b.
I have found a simple way round this. I went in to the KDE 'menu editor' and under kb3 selected 'run as different user' and in the user put 'root'. Now when kb3 runs it prompts me for the root password & runs fine. Sorry if this seems like chickening out /bin/bash! Thanks for the advice though, I would have never have realised this was a file permissions issue without your help.
The menu editor solution worked very well for me. Thanks, this was one slight annoyance I had with Slackware. Now that is over, it is the perfect linux system. I have tried them all.
