It won't let you make a directory when you mount, but there are plenty in /mnt and /media. Just know that kde may mount things in there before you do.

You need to be root to mkdir a dir in /mnt, or most places except /tmp and your home dir.

To get you r usb mouse to work you may need to make an appropriate section for it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf in addition to your regular mouse/touchpad.

Run 'xorgsetup' (as root after exiting xserver) it may detect your mouse properly.

(If you try many things and it just doesn't work, try a 2.6.x kernel)
