Update Script

I really want to re-install Slack after giving Fedora a re-re-re-re-whirl. But updating is an issue. Is there a bash script that you can use to update? Or am I better off with slackpkg and then use Pat's upgrade guide? I have used swaret and slapt-get and really didn't like them. Thanks in advance for the advice/ideas.
