Unable to Setup LVM for HTPC
Hello,
I'm building an HTPC with MythTV and the pcHDTV card. I installed Slackware 11 and upgraded to the 2.6.21 kernel. It's all gone swimmingly until now. I have two Seagate SATA drives.
I partitioned my disks so:
/dev/sda1 8 Gb 82 Linux Swap
/dev/sda2 boot 20 Gb 83 Linux
/dev/sda3 280 Gb 8e LVM
/dev/sdb1 750 Gb 8e LVM
I want to combine sda3 and sdb1 as a single disk where I will store all of my media.
I compiled RAID and LVM support into the kernel. After booting dmesg reports:
md: linear personality registered for level -1
device-mapper: ioctl 4.11.0-ioctl (2006-10-12) initialized
When I look at /proc/devices I see md and device-mapper listed. However, there is no /proc/lvm folder. Pvcreate advises me to run vgscan which asks if the dm driver or module is loaded.
What might I need to do to make LVM work?
J.
Update:
I noticed that /sbin was missing some lvm-related commands. I removed the old lvm packages and installed newer ones from linuxpackages.net. Things seem to be working now.
