Touchpad behavior in a netbook

I got a netbook and I'd like to know how I can fix something that is annoying the heck out of me.

1- How can I set mouse tapping to off? I have searched and all the threads I could find were related to the use of the synaptics driver. However, synclient accuses no synaptics driver being loaded and it is as far as I can tell a PS/2 mouse. kcm_touchpad also is completely greyed out. I think I'll have to write a mouse.conf to place in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ but I have no idea what to put there.

Edit: Split the two questions. Better like that.

I used the slackbuild for kcmtouchpad. All options are available under system settings. Not sure if this helps ...

Don't know what kind of netbook you have but this may help you.

Angry

God damn this mouse!!! I was finishing a reply and it auto-clicked on redo and that deleted my whole post.

Bottom line is that, despite behaving like most synaptics mice, the mouse is seen as a Logitech PS/2 wheel mouse. Its manufacturer is a brand called Elan. My netbook is a Samsung N150 Plus. I already tried kcm_touchpad and synclient, but they both failed because no synaptics driver is loaded.

Sorry if I sound harsh. Losing the post made me mad.

Googling this suggests that you may be more successful if you uncomment the "#options psmouse proto=imps" line in /etc/modprobe.d/psmouse.conf. There is also a suggestion to alter the RightEdge to get horizontal scrolling to work. http://www.voria.org/forum/viewtopic...36d2635d#p4240

It has been reported that the Fn-F10 hotkey works to enable/disable the touchpad. http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...66&postcount=5 as well as in a number of other distributions http://www.zdnet.co.uk/blogs/jamies-...loud-10018571/
