Synchronizing Slackware Current

Now that I have a broadband connection, I want to seriously consider maintaining a personal local mirror of Slackware current. Unlike my dialup days, this is new territory for me, but this is the type of problem that I like to have.

Currently I have a complete copy of Slackware 10.2 on my hard drive, and having that directory tree available is much nicer than grabbing a CD or even mounting an ISO image. I created that local tree by copying the contents of the CD. Now that I have broadband, staying current seems trivial, but I want to do so efficiently. I receive change log notices via email. I could simply head to a Slackware mirror and download the referenced files, but seems I should be able to do better with some scripts and cron.

How do you veteran broadband users accomplish this seemingly simple task? I imagine some of you have some scripts already posted, so responding with some links is fine---although some philosophical and pragmatic insight is nice too .

Thanks again!

Eric's scripts are a godsend.

(look under "useful scripts" for mirror-slackware-current.sh)

It does much more than just mirroring Slackware-current. Run it as "sh mirror-slackware-current.sh -h" to get an overview of the commandline parameters.

Personally I use the "rsync_slackware_patches.sh" script (also found there) to keep my mirrors updated with patches as they are released. It'll send you convenient emails if anything new is found and downloaded. My crontab entries:
Code:
# Keep the Slackware patches up to date
15 5 * * * /usr/local/sbin/rsync_slackware_patches.sh -q -r 10.2
15 6 * * * /usr/local/sbin/rsync_slackware_patches.sh -q -r 10.1
33 6 * * * /usr/local/sbin/rsync_slackware_patches.sh -q -r 10.0
Cheers, Eric

Yes, your script rocks. I use it to build my Slackware ISOs all the time. Great script, Eric. I'll have to check out that patches one, too.
