Supported Scanners

I need to replace my printer/scanner as the current one, an HP Deskjet F218, has failed. A colleague has a HP Envy 6000e going spare but we can't get the scanner function to work on my Slackware 15.0 installation. It prints OK with CUPS.

It looks like I'll have to buy a new printer/scanner instead. I don't do much printing at all, maybe a few pages a month and not much more scanning so I just want something cheap. Given my experience with the HP Envy, I'm concerned that I could buy another one that won't work with Slackware 15.0 Can anyone recommend a cheap printer/scanner that would definitely be compatable?

This is my 2nd Canon Pixma
This one is a TS 5350 All in One + wifi
https://www.canon-europe.com/support...ls&language=EN

Both print very well via wifi and Avahi
The scanner also works very well

It's a cheap multifunction printer, < 100€ (more or less the same in $)
The only negative point I can see is that if you print a lot of pages, the cartridges are a bit expensive.

EDIT:
It just needs this pkg

Thanks. I was looking at a Canon Pixma TS 3550 - only about £37 ($45). Ink price isn't a consideration as I do so little printing.

I don't do much printing either, and have been using separate units for years

For scanning, I'm using Canon's CanoScan LiDE flatbed scanners for years under Slackware and have had no issues

For printing I'm using Brother laser printers (1 color / 1 blk) both networked (using CUPS)

Again, no issues under Slackware, though the drivers for the Color unit did take some configuration tweaking as their (Brothers) "cups installer" didn't work correctly under Slackware.
But getting the drivers to install was simple enough to resolve. -- https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...er-4175615215/

Same here and no issues at all...

For printing/scanning I have a Canon Pixma 2100 series. Printing been working great, tested scanning just now (first time) which seems to be working just fine as well...

And for printing larger documents, I use a Samsung CLP-325W, this has never let me down. Works great incl. wirelessly

For the HP Envy 6000e maybe you can solve via the hplip-plugin package available here

Simply check if that Envy 6000e is working...
https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing

Seems like you're good to go with Slackware 15.0 (if kept updated)
The only thing listed as not supported, is "PC send Fax"

Thanks! It worked! I knew the scanner worked because I'd got it to work on a Raspberry Pi with the Raspbian OS, I just couldn't get it to work with Slackware.
