stupid question...

yeah, how do you shutdown a slackware linux 10.0 box? I can log out of KDE, and it takes me to a cmd line. I know I type something in the form of shutdown with other comds after it but im not sure exactly what the cmd is can someone please tell me?

Also, how do you change the resolution? im using kde on slackware 10 and I think im using xorg not xfree86... help please!!

On slack, unless you use a graphical login manager, you have to run shutdown as root.
If you use the kde login manager, you will have a shutdown option when you click on logout.
As for resolution, for slack its a good idea to run through xorgconfig as root.
Answer the questions according to your hardware, and one small tip is for mouse, /dev/mouse is the answer...

I know that there's a better way, but I log as root and type "halt"...

About the resolution, I use KDE's control center (Devices->Monitor, or something like this...)

type in :
to Halt system: shutdown -h now (as root)
to reboot: shutdown -r now
and that should do it.

if you don't have the resolution in the drop down menu that you want, then you need to edit your xorg.conf file. I'm not sure where it is as I still run slack9

Just do locate xorg.conf
