Stupid One ( 9.0 + 2.6.1 )

Seems all problems is in history now regarding to 2.6.1 update excluding this one:

modprobe: FATAL: Failed to open config file /etc/modprobe.devfs: No such file or directory

I know this file does not exist -- the problem is that I don't know where to copy it from or which file must be converted?

As P.S.
I've updated mod-init-tools to latest version and have generated the modprobe.conf file -- it's not clear and so on...

Kinda here!

Thanks in advice!

How about just installing the devfs filesystem package
from the CD-ROM? :)

Installpkg /<mounted slack-CD>/slackware/a/devfsd-*.tgz

Cheers,
Tink

Tinkster, I'll try this! Thanks!

What I am confused of is:

I'm generating modprobe.conf file for new kernel and mod-init-tools.
Maybe there is some way to do the same with old modules.devfs ?

Also I am confused with the question: when new modprobe.conf file is being loaded, why old modules.conf is empty and am I really need old modules.conf file, if new modprobe.conf already exists?

The same goes to modules.devfs...

I think devfs is deprecated now, and is not standard (although available) for slackware. I removed devfs from my system (I installed it before realising this) and I dont enable it when compiling new kernels. I don't have any error messages about devfs and I dont miss it either.
Do you want it?

Ok, I have limited knowledge here, so I will not try to advise you further.
After uninstalling the devfs package, my system rebooted as normal.

I am curious however as to how devfs is so important to your system if
file /etc/modprobe.devfs: does not exist

Thumbs up

Success.
Very special thanks to tobyl!

The problem was, that while compiling new kernel I've used /dev file system support.
Once I've removed it, recompiled kernel and disabled devfsd everything seems to be fine.
