Try a re-boot and you should see your alsa settings loaded. You may need to use a volume control setting on your desktop after a re-boot (kmix if you're using KDE) to un-mute the sound.
Works. The problem is that I also have a DVI Box to get input from the TV. So the issue now is how to have both the TV and the computer sound. If I hook the computer output to the phones, it's fine.
So now I have to figure out how to have both tv and PC sounds
