I'm new to Slackware (Used mostly SuSE in the past) and I'm trying to get swaret going to help with some of the dependency problems I'm running into with installpkg.
I have swaret installed and configured, but I get an error when I try and run "swaret --update."
Network Connection down!
Please, take a look to 'NIC' in /etc/swaret.conf!
I have a dialup connection that uses a modem on /dev/ttys1. The connection is up, but I checked swaret.conf as it suggests anyway and NIC (whatever that is) is set to eth0, which I'm pretty certain is correct. Any suggestions?
If your connection is a modem then it isn't any eth; eth is used for ethernet connections (network cards). I'm not sure what it might be but try ttys1.
Actually, this is your problem. eth0 is an ethernet card, which you are not using. If you point the NIC entry to your modem (ppp0?) then swaret will probably work. To find out the device name for your modem, use the ifconfig command.
Its working fine now. Sorry to waste everyones time with stupid questions.
As for the dependency problems, I've been able to deal with them so they aren't a serious issue. I've just been spoiled by apt4rpm and would rather not have to worry about them when possible.
Yeah, I've been installing a few unofficial packages, and there are still more I want to install.
Is swaret only useful for official packages? I just assumed I could add more repositories in a similar way to apt, and install other packages from there.
