Slackware64 current unresponsive (KDE 4.5.5, 4.6.2, XFCE 4.8)

I am preparing my system for the new release and trying to settle on a good desktop environment for my work.

I have noticed that KDE 4.6.2 runs extremely unresponsively on my laptop (Which one month ago ran 4.6 flawlessly).

The laptop uses ATI open source GFX driver. Have there been any changes or issues with the 2.6.37 kernel that may be causing this?

Thank you

Not sure, but you haven't mentioned how 4.5.5 and xfce run - ok or not?
