Slackware xfware Install Method

I'm planning a specific Slackware 12.2 installation and I'd appreciate any advice or suggested procedures. In particular, I'm interested in your suggestions for packages I can OMIT so that it stays as small as possible.

This is my plan.

1. Install 12.2 with just enough packages, so that I have a command line interface only but full Internet access via broadband dynamic IP address.

2. Include KDE libraries so that I can run KDE apps later.

3. Include CUPS and gutenprint so that I can print with many printers.

4. Include as many wireless network interface firmware packages as possible.

5. Then install xfware and use xfce as the desktop.

I don't need games, and the machine won't be a server of any kind, so I don't need Apache, etc. I won't be using apps like Pine or Mutt either, I'll use GUI programs in xfce for things like that.

I don't intend to use Zenwalk or Wolvix, etc. -- I'm going with Slackware. Any advice on how to keep it lean would be appreciated.

Thanks, samac. I had found that thread, but I noticed that it was quite old and so I was concerned that it might lead to problems with 12.2. Any chance it could be updated? Or does it even need to be updated.

Also, what is you opinion about the minimum for KDE libraries, so that KDE apps like wlassistant will run?

If I remember correctly you only need kdebase and kdelibs to get a sort of kde. However if you are serious about a stripped system you will have to build from the ground up and add in all the dependencies that kde will require. Me I just install everything and then take out half of kde, koffice, and the excess kernels.

Slackware 12.2 hasn't really changed since I wrote up that experiment.
