Slackware package system

Hi, I have a fresh 10.2 install and I want to install apache, php, mysql, cvs, etc. I know how to do this, but I assume that most of these were already installed with slackware. What I want to know is, howto find out if it's installed and how to cleanly and completly remove it so I can start from scratch. Thanks.

You can find all the installed packages listed under /var/log/packages and you can remove any of those packages with the command
Code:
removepkg /var/log/packages/package_name-version
- substitute the correct filename of the package that you want to remove of course.

Any package that you need to install afterwards, you can install with

Code:
installpkg /full/path/to/the/package_name.tgz
Cheers, Eric

You could use whereis httpd, whereis php and whereis mysqld to see if they are installed. You can also use the pkgtool app to view installed packages and remove them.

I would just use the remove apache, remove php and remove mysql to remove them.

When you say:
Code:
installpkg /full/path/to/the/package_name.tgz
the *.tgz file, is that the source, or is there someway to package the binaries that I compile
in order to be able to add them like that? Perhaps it would be easier if you could link me to
some basic info on the slack package system. Untill then it's off to the man pages.

I suggest you'd read a lot more about Slackware than just the SlackBook's chapter on package management because I think you have no more than a very basic knowledge at the moment.

Apart from the Slackbook, there is also Slackware Linux basics which is an excellent read.

Cheers, Eric
