I have always used slackware and I am fairly confident using it. I have 10.2 setup with custom smp kernel, apache, mysql, php, etc. This was all relativley easy using available online documentation. One thing i want to do is set up a mail server for a Domain. I have searched and googled lots but cannot really find a definative answer or find guidance.
What would be a good setup to use considering the gig mentioned above, I only want/need to be able to retrieve/send mail from windows boxes via outlook express.
Any Ideas would be appreciated
TIA

Mail administration is a pretty complicated subject. At the minimum, you'll need an SMTP server and a POP3 server. Slackware includes both in sendmail and popa3d, respectively. Perhaps the simplest solution is to use both. The first (and easiest step) is simply to uncomment the line for popa3d in /etc/inetd.conf.
WARNING: This allows people to login via plain text to check their mail through POP3 against their UNIX password found in /etc/shadow. Don't allow anyone with shell access to check their e-mail this way.
Configuring sendmail is quite a bit harder. Files to look at are /etc/mail/access, /etc/mail/aliases, /etc/mail/local-host-names, and /etc/mail/relay-domains. The format for these files is fairly straightforward and a google search should turn up plenty of infomation relevant to this.
Right on it seems to all be working, one thing in the reply to the hostname is added to the domain name makes it impossible to resolve inside NAT lan. Easy fix or?
TIA
