Slackware, Java and the Bank.

Well, I just had a rather interesting, but frustrating experience.
Recently, I changed financial institutions and up until this morning I have been able do everything I wanted to do in Pale Moon, or any other browser, as far as that goes.
An hour or so ago I tried to deposit a check. After following their
guidelines for scanning the check and entering the amount, an error
popped up saying I needed a newer version of Java, but openjre-8u151xxx
is installed.
After trying Pale Moon, Firefox and Vivaldi (a chrome clone), I finally fired up VirtualBox and therein, winXP. Worked like charm. No
fuss, no muss.
I'm guessing their website doesn't recognize openjre and, perhaps, I should build and install Java from /extra?
Thanks.

This also can happen when using java via the /extra scripts. It gets updated frequently and often only after implementing the update it works... Could be a safety thing built into palemoon and the other browsers. Thus, it could be that you need an update for openjre-8 (my jdk is on 1.8.0_162-b12). What browser did you use via winXp? Or maybe the java doesn't need updating in winXp as that os is no longer maintained?

Yep. That did it. Uninstalled openjre and installed jre from Oracle.
Now I'll have to make a note to keep it up to date.
Thanks for the reply.

I was using the Java applet for a while, but now I use Firefox in Wine.

I just had the opportunity to fire up VB and Xp, again, for another purpose, so to answer your question, Firefox-ESR-52.6.0.
