Slackware issues.


I've installed slackware like 10 times, I got lilo to give it the MBR it boots and all that... but I type startx after selecting gnome as the display and it says command not found. HELP

hangon, you type startx AFTER starting gnome ? o_O

you have to configure X first, as root, run:

xf86config


and then as your user, type "startx".

If GNOME doesnt come up, run "xwmconfig" as root to change your default WM.

You sure you actually installed the Gnome packages?

Well, to get it to work, you just have to execute the solution.

Why not tell us WHAT HAPPENS. We cant help you with just "it doesnt work".

it said,

I have GNOME and KDE installed... I can't even select KDE... now I don't even get that I'm back to where it says No Boot Signature in partition on boot now

Silly question, but still: are you typing these command as root? If not, that might be why they're not being picked up. Try running them as root.

back to the same siutation now...

I'd be happy with GNOME or anything, right now I says i'm root@darkstar and when I say startx its an invalid command so is xf86config.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm. That *is* odd. Can you run "xwmconfig" at least? Or does that not work either?
