slackware install

Can I setup my harddrive ( linux partition) before I install Slackware using partition magic. That is setting up partition with linux ext2 and a swap file, thus eliminating the first steps of slackware's install?

I think so, but doing partition should be done with linux tool as they will provide full compatibility although partition magic is a good tool. Try and see.

YES. Partition Magic is the best program to do it. It's secure and will guide you through everything. Good Luck! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Tip: don't let PM set the filesystem. Just create an empty partition and let Slack set the filesystem. I have never had a problem doing it this way, but I have seen others have problems when they let PM set it.
