slackware Eleven install Audacity sound editor?

Has anyone succeeded in installing the Audacity sound editor
in Slackware Eleven? I have installed the program with
audacity-1.3.0-i486-1ron.tgz and audacity-1.3.0b-i486-1kjz.tgz
but when I try to run them from /usr/local/bin both of them
asked to files not on the system. So I found those files and
installed them, but they asked for yet more files I did not
have, ending with
libwx-gtk2u_xrc-2.6.so.0 which I can't find anywhere.
And I tried to install Audacity from source as well, but
again, no luck.
I suspect it's got something to do with wxWidgets, but I'm
sort of tired of chaseing the rabbit, you know.
Audacity is a fine sound editor and I ran it on Slackware 10.0
Has anyone got it to work with Slackware Eleven? How?

Sounds to me like you need to install the wxGTK library....go to linuxpackages.net and do a search for it (it's there as I just checked). I would probably almost bet you may need another library as well...I haven't looked into audacity so I dunno off hand what it needs. But I know when I was configuring my media players, it's like I needed 7 or 8 additional libaries and codecs and such before the thing would finally run. So, be prepared in the event it asks you for another one. Linuxpackages is a great site for Slack users.

Take a look at SlackBuilds.org. There you will find a build script for Audacity and its requirements.

Hi Ed_999

audacity-1.3.0b-i486-1kjz.tgz works just fine.

You need a specific version wxGTK-2.6.3-i486-1asz

I got this from linuxpackages.net

slackware Eleven install Audacity sound editor?

Thanks! I have got Audacity running and it looks real good.
Installed: wxGTK-2.6.3-i486.1asz.tgz
then audacity-1.3.0b-i486-1kjz.tgz
This got Audacity running fine. Since then I've installed
the plugins from CMT, LADSPA, and SWH-LADSPA. They add a
lot of functionality to Audacity. Great stuff! Thanks again.
