SLackware amd64 / tcpdump crash

using default "everything" kernel

tcpdump and wireshark both cause hard crashes upon "starting capture". The crash occurs using tcpdump with and without X. i assume its flaw with kernel module and my network card (onboard). Im posting this for a heads up for others. If others have this problem i assume updating the kernel will fix it but i have not tested this yet.

There is a tool called strace that would work well in diagnosing this problem. It will take some getting used to the command, but once you get the hang of it, I think you will find it works very well. You can fire it up with these basic flags to get started:

strace -fv -o <trace file name> <command>

The output in the trace file will look cryptic and be difficult, but the information you need will be there.
