hmmm, I tried what you suggested and I wasn't able to get it to work. Here is what is in the error log:

(WW) The directory "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local" does not exist.

I get the same message 5 times for local, msc, Type1, CID, Speedo

It seems to me that the fonts needed by the window manager were not installed but I can't find any mention of them in the list of packages to install in the setup procedure. Any ideas on this one!?

The font packages should of been installed from the slackware/x tree on the install CD. You could mount the CD and change to that directory and run pkgtool to reinstall the packages desired if you like.

I tried what you suggested and it got rid of all error messages except 1, it still cannot find the Speedo font. I checked the cd and the server where I got the image and the speedo package isn't listed. I checked the font directory on the hard drive and it appears that speedo isn't there. If you know where it is located on the disk I think reinstalling it would fix the problem.

Never mind, I found it, its part of another package. But it still doesn't work, hmmm

Is it still complaining about fonts? Or is it a new problem now? Like mouse or screens?
