Has anyone heard anything about a slack 9.2? I'm wondering because I'm having a lot of problems with the 2.6 kenrel and I'd really like to see a new release that comes with 2.6.
Who knows. There's been a little trouble with XFree86 license issues lately, so I wouldn't get my hopes up until that's sorted out one way or another.
Code:
Tue Apr 13 20:13:15 PDT 2004
x/xfree86-4.4.0-i486-2.tgz: Upgraded to fontconfig-2.2.2, freetype-2.1.7, and
Xft-2.1.5.
x/xfree86-devel-4.4.0-i486-2.tgz: Upgraded to fontconfig-2.2.2, freetype-2.1.7,
and Xft-2.1.5.
x/xfree86-docs-4.4.0-noarch-2.tgz: Upgraded freetype2 docs to version 2.1.7.
testing/packages/x11/*: Added X11R6.7.0 from X.Org.
Got an opinion on what the future of X in Slackware should be? I'm curious
about that myself, and welcome comments on the matter at x@slackware.com.
well, seeing how the current Slack kernel is only 2.4.26
I doubt Pat V. will put 2.6 on the next release. there are still
too many problems with video and sound on the 2.6 right now.
2.6xx kernel is still in beta stage to me and many of third party applications don't work with the kernel 2.6.if we look around, the distros where there is 2.6xx kernel is beta or rc such as Fedora Linux,Suse Linux,Conectiva and Mandrake Linux has 2.4.25 and 2.6.Slackware current has the kernel 2.4.26 and works very well
I have used my magic to find out about your query. It seems that the next version of Slackware will be out on............doh, rats, can't belive I broke another one. Sorry, you will have to wait until I can pickup another crystal ball. They just don't seem to make crystal balls like they used too, one good drop and they shatter.
Someone on the dropline gnome forum claims he was told late april. Who knows for sure. I think it is clear that kernel 2.6 will not be in the next release if it does come out that soon. There has not been a built kernel released for testing yet. I think that will have to happen first, before it is include in a release.
